Gema Gemalai is the culmination of the Joget Gamelan Sustainability and Cultural Heritage Project by Pusat Kreatif Kanak-kanak Tuanku Bainun and PUSAKA, supported by Yayasan Hasanah, a foundation of Khazanah Nasional.
This project aims to enhance the conservation of the Joget Gamelan, a royal court tradition of Terengganu, by training 52 students from Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur .
This showcase is the maiden public performance of these young students.
This delightful showcase was graced by Her Royal Highness Raja Permaisuri Perak Darul Ridzuan, Tuanku Zara Salim and PKK Tuanku Bainun’s Chairman, YTM Raja Dato’ Seri Azureen binti Sultan Azlan Shah.
It was the followed by speeches from Mr Eddin Khoo, the founder and director of PUSAKA and Tan Sri Dato Azman Mokhtar, Managing Director of Khazanah Nasional Berhad .
The opening act , ‘’Silat Tari’’ was performed by the children from Rumah Solehah and Rumah Safiyyah whilst the instrumental gamelan performance was done by students of SMK Sultan Sulaiman, Kuala Terengganu.
The Gamelan ensemble, under the PUSAKA training programme, with the cooperation of Warisan Sari, played the “Perang Selinang”, “Nongga” and “Gambuh Menyanyi” melodies.
The audience were captivated and mesmerized by the delicate and supple movements of the dancers performing the Joget Gamelan to the tune of “Togok”, Joget Gamelan Timang Burung and the energetic Tarian Topeng.
